The Cloncurry Stockman’s Challenge Honour’s a Great Man

The Cloncurry Stockman’s Challenge & Campdraft are proud to announce an extra event to this year’s program, the ‘Ron Wall Memorial Derby Challenge’ sponsored by Lemmons Store. President Cheyne Williams said, “It’s a privilege to name our Derby Challenge after Ron. This was an easy decision given the time Ron spent in the north.”

“Not only has he competed at Cloncurry more than any other competitor, he won the challenge in 1997 and 1999 along with numerous placings over the years. Ron devoted the later part of life sharing his knowledge holding clinics on stations and in towns across Northern Australia. This namesake will ensure that his legacy is long remembered,” Mr Williams said.

The Derby Challenge is restricted to five-year old horses, giving them a unique opportunity to compete in their own class. With a prize pool of $15,000 up for grabs and a first place prize of $8,000, it’s sure to be a major draw card for this year’s event.

The committee have a massive week planned. With a record breaking $120,000 + of prizemoney across the Challenge and Campdraft events, it is sure to be a memorable occasion.
